The two main types of bankruptcy outlined in the U.S. Bankruptcy Code are Chapter 7 and Chapter 13. The following is a brief summary of these two types of bankruptcy:

bankruptcy, foreclosures, tax levies

Chapter 7

Chapter 7 will give you a complete fresh start. You will only continue to make payments to those creditors who hold a lien on your house, car, furniture, etc., that you want to keep. This is a good solution if you are "in over your head," or if you do not have a lot of valuables or income.

Chapter 13

If you are behind on your home or car payments and need to keep your house and/or car, a Chapter 13 would be a better solution for you. We can create a repayment plan to help you keep your home or car and help you catch up on your house payments. Upon timely payments of your Chapter 13 for 12 months with no additional credit blemishes, you may be considered for an FHA or VA home mortgage.
